NEW YORK (AP) ? Facebook is rolling out a service called Gifts which, as its name suggests, lets users send chocolate, coffee, socks and other real-life presents to one another.

Facebook Gifts launched Thursday to a subset of users in the U.S. and will roll out to more over the coming months as people begin to send gifts to each other.

Users will be able to click on a "gifts" icon on their Facebook friends' pages on Facebook's website or on Android mobile phones. (IPhone and iPad versions are coming soon.)

The icon will also show up on the right side of users' Facebook pages with the notifications for friends' birthdays, weddings and other life events. For example, if your friend's birthday is coming up in two days, you'll now see a "give her a gift" link and the gift icon next to her name and photo.

Clicking the icon will display presents you can buy, such as a Starbucks gift card, cupcakes or a teddy bear.

The recipient will be notified through Facebook to enter a shipping address for the presents. In some cases, they'll be able to select their own cupcake flavors or size and style of socks. They can also exchange gifts for other items if they don't like chocolate or don't wear socks.

The move represents Facebook Inc.'s first real foray into e-commerce. The company will take an unspecified cut from each item sold. On Thursday, possible gifts included gourmet ice cream, Andy Warhol prints, flowers, organic dog toys and spa packages.

Facebook Gifts is the result of Facebook's acquisition of Karma, a 16-person startup based in San Francisco. Facebook bought the company on May 18, the day of its rocky initial public offering. Karma's mobile app let people send gifts to their friends on the go. Facebook Gifts, of course, works both on computers and mobile devices.

Lee Linden, the former head of Karma, is now head product manager for Facebook Gifts, which he says incorporates "the heart and soul of the Karma experience."

"We think gifting is a form of communication," he said.

Nigeria forces say kill two Islamist commanders

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria (Reuters) - Nigerian security forces fighting the Boko Haram Islamist sect in the northeast of the country said on Friday they had killed two commanders from the group and arrested eight other members in two separate incidents.

The sect has killed hundreds in attacks on security forces, government offices and churches since launching an uprising in 2009 with the aim of carving out an Islamic state.

Agents from the secret service stopped a car at a check point on the outskirts of Maiduguri on Wednesday and the occupants opened fire on them, said Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa, spokesman for joint military and police forces in the northeastern city.

He said security forces returned fire and killed the commanders.

"The two sect members were top commanders coordinating the sect activities in Mubi and Yola, in Adamawa and Yobe states," Musa said, adding that in a separate incident in Maiduguri eight Boko Haram suspects were arrested.

The details could not be independently verified and there was no immediate response from Boko Haram, which is based in Maiduguri.

Nigeria's biggest security threat, Boko Haram has managed large-scale, damaging assaults, including one in January where at least 186 people died in coordinated attacks in Kano, the north's biggest city.

This week, authorities said they had killed the sect's spokesman Abu Qaqa and another senior commander while members of Boko Haram were suspected of killing a former top prison warder and the attorney general Borno state, of which Maiduguri is the capital.

It remains unclear if the loss of Qaqa will significantly weaken the sect or if it was indeed him.

Nigerian forces have previously claimed to have killed or captured him only for the militant to subsequently issue a statement denying it. No statement has been issued this week.

How to Download and Update to iOS 6 [IOS 6]

How to Download and Update to iOS 6iOS 6 is out, and you can update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch right now if you want. Here's a list of the supported devices and how to install the upgrade.

Note: iOS 6 is currently rolling out so it might not be available to everyone right this minute. Be patient and it will come. Also be aware that everyone is flooding Apple's servers to update, so things might be moving a little on the slow side.

Step One: Make Sure Your iDevice Is Compatible

In order to run iOS 6, you'll need one of the following devices:

Of course, iOS 6 runs on the new iPhone 5 and iPod touch (5th generation) but those devices come with it pre-installed and therefore do not require an upgrade. If you have any of the devices listed above, move on to the next step to upgrade.

Step Two: Upgrade Over the Air or via iTunes

There are two ways to update to iOS 6: using your iDevice or you computer. We'll go over both.

To update your iDevice over the air, follow these steps:

  1. Connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to power. You don't want the update to stop part-way through because you ran out of battery.
  2. Backup your device!
  3. Open the Settings app.
  4. Tap the General tab.
  5. Tap the Software Update tab.
  6. Wait for your device to check for updates. When it finds an available update, install it.
  7. Wait for the update to download and install. Don't do anything with your phone while it does.

To update your iDevice with iTunes on your computer, follow these steps:

  1. Connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC and open iTunes (if it doesn't open automatically).
  2. Backup your device!
  3. iTunes may tell you that an update (iOS 6) is available for your device. If it does, confirm that you want to install it. If not, click on your device in the iTunes sidebar and tap the Check for Updates button. When an update is found, confirm that you want to install it.
  4. Wait for the update to download and, when finished, confirm you want to install it. Wait for the update to install.

Regardless of the method you chose, your device will reboot after the update has completed. You'll most likely need to go through a few setup panels to get started, but your device now has iOS 6!
